How do you know if you need to replace your subfloor?

A good subfloor is key to getting the best performance out of your flooring covering. Before you think about laying down your new flooring, you need to check that your current subfloor is in good condition. If it isn't, any imperfections, like lumps, and dips will be reflected in the flooring laid on top.

There are many of different types of subfloors – the main ones are wooden floorboards, screed, and concrete. Which type of subfloor you have will depend on how old your house is. You may find that you have several different subfloors throughout your home if it has been extended or renovated over the years.

This depends on the type of flooring you have and how it has been fitted.

Carpet is very quick to remove, so this will normally take place on the day of fitting. Vinyl flooring that is stuck down at the edges can be ripped up quite quickly.

Smooth flooring like luxury vinyl or laminate will need to be removed plank by plank so therefore this will take a bit longer. There are other variables such as if the room is empty, does any subfloor work need doing, or in the case of dryback luxury vinyl, how well it has been stuck down.
